Come Home to Yourself Now

We shall not cease from exploration
And at the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
~ T.S. Eliot

There are certain things in life that remind us that at the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started (where we already were) and to know this place for the first time. Having just gotten dreadfully sick this past week while on a business trip, I can attest that health is surely one of those things. It’s not until you’re sick that you know so well what a wondrous thing your healthy appetite and digestive system was. Also your youth. It’s not until you see those first lines, or you don’t feel quite right in a bikini anymore that you realize how gorgeous you were and may not have appreciated it, just as you likely don’t appreciate your magnificence and glow now. So though we shall not cease from exploration, let us soak up our reverence for our bodies and the life around us now, a reverence which we often go in search of, but is in fact just here under our very skin, as someday we’ll look back on that too and know it for the first time.

xoxo

  1. I love these lines, and they are among those to which I return most often. Thank you for the reminder of that essential and yet so-difficult task of appreciating what is, right now. Thank you. xox
