Some of the poetry that has moved me the most in my life has been in song lyrics. When the way it’s sung and the turn of phrase hits you just right, right in the center of your chest, you feel that connection. We are not alone. Our emotions of joy, heartache, aspiration, hope…..
Creativity is the itch that goes with that feeling. Creativity is peering at the invisible; smelling it, sensing it, and feeling irrationally compelled to try to bring it into form. It is feeling pulled to do something, to create something to bring something into existence that never existed in quite the same way before.
As much of an upside as they have, this weight we put on the first can also intimidate and distract us from moving and thinking beyond it. Moving into deeper waters, into the journey, because we’re afraid of the initial shock and the chance that we might screw it up.
