I know this is a little late in coming, but I wanted to take some space here to honor Adam Yauch (MCA) of the Beastie Boys who passed away earlier this month from cancer. The Beastie Boys came onto the scene big time with their album Licensed to Ill when I was in High School. They were so different than anything I was familiar with I was blown away, and my idea of what genres of music I might like was blown wide open. I had heard rap before but these guys were funny and sort of punk rock in a way, and I loved them from the start.
Years later when I was out of college I moved up to the mountains to live with five friends in a little condo right near Lake Tahoe. Those were great times; the single years, no responsibilities except to pay your very meager portion of the rent and to have as much fun as possible. The sound track of those years would most certainly include the Beastie Boys. We laughed and danced around the living room to She’s Crafty and Paul Revere while getting ready to go out on the town more times than I can remember. Now a mother of a Kindergartener, I still know the lyrics to Paul Revere by heart.
I will forever be grateful to Adam Yauch and the rest of the Beastie Boys for bringing so many laughs and so much joy into our lives. You will always hold a special place in my heart and in the soundtrack of my life.
