When I first heard this concept of a single individual creating a mission statement for themselves just as a company would do, I didn’t really get it. It seemed a little too ‘person as brand’ and that’s not really how I like to think about people. But in the past couple of years I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching and a lot of shining the light into places I had previously allowed to remain dark and I am seeing now that I want much more out of life. And what I have is not bad. In fact it’s wonderful, in most ways. So this isn’t about feeling unfulfilled, this is about a MISSION. Creating a succinct vision of what you want to make of your life what you want it to feel like from the inside.
My mission is to continue to step forward even if I can only manage baby steps. Even when I’m scared. Even when I’m full of doubt. To lean into my inspirations and to sit with my emotions. Not to run. Not to turn away. To nurture my interests and to pour my heart into expressing myself in the best way that I can. “To write with all my stars out” knowing that with time and practice I will improve and my life will be filled with activities that make my heart sing. I want to find myself working more than ever, yet never feeling as if I am working. That is the goal. To so thoroughly enjoy and give in each and every involvement that all artificial boundaries are blurred.
What’s your mission? Write it down, and if you’re comfortable, share it with us here. Sometimes we figure out what we think just by writing. Don’t tell yourself you don’t make plans. What do you hope for? Where are you aiming? What do you want your life to feel like? What do you want to contribute? What part of yourself is seeking to step forward?
